Customized Network, Application and Content Services

Santa Clara, CA, July 9, 2001 -Atreus Systems™, Inc. and Lucent Technologies today announced a strategic partnership that consolidates Lucent's advanced networking systems with Atreus Systems' intelligent service creation and delivery platforms into one powerful solution. Together, the joint solution brings additional service intelligence and customer-specific details to the edge of the IP network and in-building installations, allowing service providers to increase profitability with the rapid launch of a full-suite of customized, bundled IP-based network, application and content services designed for service providers, target commercial/enterprise, residential and hospitality markets.

Based on the combination of Atreus Systems' xLINK™ Service Creation and Delivery platforms and Lucent's Stinger™ line of DSL equipment, value-added IP/application service offerings (including toll-quality voice-over-broadband, data/video, and managed security) will be available through a next- generation service portal. The portal allows subscribers to see the services that are available to buy, view what they are currently using, self-provision their services and instantaneously use these network and application services through their single user logon.

Market Positioned for Explosive Growth

According to a March 2001 report by market research firm Cahners In-Stat Group, the U.S. market for commercial, residential and hospitality broadband equipment and services combined will grow from $270 million in 2000 to nearly $8.5 billion in 2005. Factors contributing to this growth include the deployment of high-speed Internet along with such value-added services as VPN, firewall, bandwidth management, e-commerce, telephony, and video.

"In an effort to decrease operating costs and generate sustainable high-margin revenues, service providers are moving to more sophisticated broadband product offerings. The Lucent and Atreus joint solution enables providers to increase revenue per customer and realize immediate cost savings through rapid deployment of bundled IP services to the commercial, residential and hospitality markets," said Amy Helland, industry analyst at Cahners In-Stat. "This strategic partnership of technology leaders will allow service providers to simplify the service creation process by centrally automating service delivery and empowering subscribers to self-activate high-margin services on demand through a branded next generation portal."

Atreus Systems Intelligent Service Creation & Delivery Platform

Atreus Systems' xLINK™ Service Creation product suite is a proven solution that enables service providers and carriers to increase revenue per customer by creating and delivering value-added services over broadband networks. The Atreus xLINK™ product suite includes the power of Atreus xAuthority™, a policy-based central management platform that automates service delivery by addressing the definition, activation, billing, and management of bundled, customized IP, application and content services for businesses and consumers; Atreus xServiceDrivers™, which are software plug-in modules that enable providers to rapidly launch a service offering, create service bundles and quickly integrate existing hardware or introduce new network and computing elements needed to support a service offering. The modules also allow xAuthority to automatically communicate service configuration policies in protocols native to an applicable service delivery point device such as an Internet Appliance, IP Service Switch, etc. in order to effect provisioning changes for instantaneous service delivery; these services are then accessible to the end user through the Atreus xPortal™ Software, which features a single login point to self-activate services.
